In the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, dealing with growing plastic waste was becoming a major challenge for the smaller urban local bodies (ULBs). These bodies are confronted with increasing waste volumes. At the same time, they look for environmentally and economically viable alternatives to landfilling, as landfills are countered by regulatory, public opinion and economic pressures. Geocycle India has tied up with 9 ULBs in the state for providing sustainable solutions for plastic waste.
Through this project, Geocycle helped provide a sustainable and long term solution for plastic waste in key districts of the state. The project also helped create livelihood by involving local self help groups in the segregation process. The segregated plastic is collected at the dedicated collection centres and is further transported and co-processed by Geocycle.
